Stress, Anxiety, Fear, Worry, Pain and Depression are words that are so easily used these day’s. Coping with stress has become big business and many drug companies are really cashing in.

It was noted recently that prescriptions of anti-depressants has risen by 40%. Click here to see the BBC report.

 

People are turning more and more to the ‘quick fix’ of anti-depressants, not really thinking or inquiring about the negative side effects, which are often worse than the stress itself.

 

The reality is that we create our own stress, and we are the only ones that can do anything about it.

 

The self-help movement (and science) has recognised that stress is the root cause of most of the problems that people face in today’s world.

 

It’s a big shame that most people don’t take the time to get help with stress issues from a more natural source. The benefits of meditation or switching our minds off in some way are so immense that stress and anxiety can cease to exist.

 

The benefits of exercise are so well documented to alleviate stress and anxiety, and any exercise can help. I believe the best exercise to take away stress is yoga. If you don’t like the word yoga, replace it with stretching exercises and deep breathing, it’s the same thing. Running, jogging, swimming, walking the dog, playing with your kids, are all exercises. Anything that gets you ‘moving’ can be classed as exercise. Nobody will do it for you. You have to take control of your life, to have a good life, and it’s proved that it’s very difficult to be depressed if you are exercising regularly.

 

Learning some simple breathing exercises and applying them everyday will reduce your levels of stress. Learning some type of self-hypnosis will do the same thing.

Listening to hypnosis downloads has the same effect. Basically, any relaxation technique and making it a habit, a discipline, will help with stress reduction.

Self-help books are fantastic, there are thousands of them, and this industry also, has boomed over the last 30 years. I often say to people that you can read all the self-help books in the world, but if you don’t do what the books are saying, nothing will change. You have to take action and ‘do’ what the books say.

 

It all starts with your desire; you must have a want, wish, desire or dream to start with, it can’t happen any other way. You have to believe that what you want for yourself is possible. You have to find your motivation. You need to have a ‘motive’ to get you moving, a reason to lose weight, alleviate stress, get fit, reduce anger levels (add in there, anything you want to change about yourself).

 

Change happens only when you take action. I listen every single day to one of my hypnosis downloads. That is my way to control stress and anxiety. It’s my way to remain calm, to be confident. I’ve used NLP techniques to deal with ‘stuff’ from my past, to neutralise negative emotions that I used to experience. Our brains are incredible tools.
